In the category of library utilization and services it was ranked an impressive No. 2. Add this to Kansas City's proud literary heritage, including Ernest Hemingway at The Kansas City Star, that continues today represented by writers that include Calvin Trillin, Whitney Terrell, Candice Millard among many, many others.

How is a literary festival different from a book fair?
In general, a book fair is a one or two day event only. A literary festival, in addition to being an event, seeks to assimilate itself into the community in order to affect change. It continue its work throughout the year with schools, libraries and literary and community organizations to promote the benefits of and encourage reading. The KCLF is a literary festival.
Is the KCLF an annual event?
Yes, the KCLF is ill be an annual event occurring the weekend immediately following Mother’s Day.
Who is the target audience for the KCLF?
All ages with a focus on young readers.
Are libraries and schools involved?
Yes. The KCLF seeks and welcomes participation of area libraries and schools. In its launch year of 2007, the KCLF collaborated with the Kansas City Public Library and the Johnson County Library.
What national organizations will be involved in 2008?
The National Endowment for the Arts (BIG read program), the Hemingway Society, C-SPAN (Book TV), and Target among others.
